The summer may seem as though it was rather short-lived, but we are officially in autumn now. As the hats and scarves start to make an appearance again, it can be tempting to stay indoors to keep warm. However, being based in one of the most beautiful parts of the country, we know that this is a spectacular time of year to get outdoors and enjoy the views on offer instead.

So, if you’re going to take a stroll around Silverdale, you’ll need warming up, and we have just what you need!

Lunchtime Warmers

There’s nothing quite like a crisp morning walk to begin the day, but this can be hungry work. At The Royal Silverdale, we’ve got the perfect lunchtime menu to warm you up. We recommend the soup of the day for starters to warm you up!

Hearty Dinners

After a long day of walking in the local area, you’ll deserve a treat to end your day well. Our warm and friendly village pub and restaurant is a great place to feed your appetite and warm yourself up. Our main menu has plenty of hearty meals to choose from, such as our Royal’s own sausage served with creamed potato, green beans and port wine sauce, or perhaps our sweet potato & mushroom spicy stew, served with flavoured yogurt and charred bread.

 

Wintery Sundays

Sunday is the perfect day for a family walk in Silverdale, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Best of all, when you stop off at The Royal Silverdale, you’ll be able to enjoy a delicious Sunday Roast.

Walking Routes

There are plenty of fantastic walking routes that will allow you to enjoy the natural beauty of the area. You could take the lovely 8-mile coastal walk from Arnside to Silverdale, taking the long way round to enjoy the spectacular views that look over the bay to Grange-over-Sands. Alternatively, you could do a loop of the town, taking in everything this beautiful area has to offer. Of course, you may prefer to take a relaxed stroll instead, stopping off for a drink and a bite to eat with us!

They feature regular cruises for those who want to experience the lake’s wonder on water.    Windermere lake is just over a mile from the town of Windermere itself but the village of Bowness-on-Windermere sits on its shoreline in the centre of the lake. Both of these towns feature numerous bars and restaurants, so a trip to Windermere is not just a delight for your eyes, but for your taste buds!   There aren’t many lakes in Cumbria with such an array of activities. Whether that’s an exciting boat cruise or a nearby indoor climbing centre, you won’t be short of choice at Windermere!   For those staying at the Holgates Holiday Park in Silverdale, a trip to Lake Windermere takes just a 30 minute drive.   3. Bassenthwaite Lake   For lovers of animals and wildlife, Bassenthwaite lake is the perfect lake for you. The woods next to Bassenthwaite lake are home to the rare red squirrel. The lake itself is home to an abundance of fish species. These include the rare vendace and the atlantic salmon.  Not only this, but hundreds of birds including osprey migrate to the lake each year. A pair of binoculars is a must when visiting Bassenthwaite lake!   This beautiful lake is also home to a small open air theatre which was built in 1974. The poet Alfred Tennyson is thought to have composed much of his poem Morte d’Arthur in the place where the open air theatre lies.    Bassenthewaite lake is also one of the largest lakes in Cumbria stretching to 4 miles long! If you’re scratching your head wondering where to take the family on the next big holiday, look no further than the amazing cottages at The Royal. These cottages, as part of the Holgates Cottage Collection, are the perfect place to call home providing you and your group with easy access to stunning natural surroundings, exciting leisure centre amenities, and the tasty food and drinks on offer at The Royal Silverdale. Please note: Planning a large family holiday means more planning. Especially if you want to visit restaurants, events, or tourist attractions. We recommend phoning ahead for accommodation, meals, and any other activity before setting off. By spending some time planning and booking, you can ensure you and your group won’t miss out or be stuck looking for establishments with enough seats for all of you. The Knott (6 Guests) At The Royal in Silverdale, we have two inviting cottages situated right on our doorstep in the heart of the Silverdale village. These cottages, lovingly known as The Knott and The Pepper Pot, draw their names from famous landmarks in the area and are the perfect accommodation for families and friends looking to explore the beautiful Lancashire countryside.  The Knott, situated just a 5-minute walk from the beach, is the larger of the two cottages. It sleeps up to six people across three bedrooms. The rooms consist of one King-sized master bedroom, a double room, and a twin room. This spacious holiday cottage has a large living area. It is adjoined by a kitchen ideal for entertaining guests and preparing large family meals. You’ll also find a dishwasher, washer-dryer, fridge-freezer, and a large dining table all at your disposal.  The living area is ideal for relaxing after a long hike or day out. The log burning stove adds ambience and warmth while the comfortable leather furniture, Wifi and television mean you can get access to your favourite Netflix series when you feel like having some downtime.  The main bathroom comes fitted with a bath and a shower as well as an accompanying downstairs toilet.
