Spring Events Happening Around The Royal

With winter finally looking like it might be finally coming to an end, it’s time to start looking forward to the most beautiful season of the year: spring! Springtime in Silverdale and the Lake District is a truly stunning sight to behold, the flora can shake off the frost of the winter season and finally burst through to blossom across the stunning landscapes surrounding Silverdale. Baby lambs, butterflies and birds can be found in abundance across this part of the country, there really is no better time to take a trip to this neck of the woods to experience this wonderful season for yourself.

Aside from the incredible nature trails and photo opportunities you can experience, Silverdale and the surrounding areas will play host to an array of exciting events this spring for the whole family to enjoy. Here’s just a sample of what’s taking place this spring in and around Silverdale:

Dust Discoveries at Leighton Moss

Silverdale is home to the incredible RSPB Leighton Moss, a nature reserve in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. From the 13th May to the 18th May, 7:00pm until dusk, you can book a magical experience at Leighton Moss. You will have the chance to walk through the incredible woodlands and reedbeds at dusk. You can listen to the ‘dusk chorus’ and hope to encounter wildlife in the twilight. Accompanying experts will help identify the sounds as well as all manner of wildlife that calls the reserve home.

Landscape Trust: Secrets of Silverdale

If you want to discover more about the village of Silverdale, you can with the Landscape Trust. On the 8th June from 10:00am to 1:30pm you can take a walk with Jean Turnball across the sands of the seaward part of Silverdale, to Gibraltar Farm, and then ending at Wolf House. This is a free event that will require booking due to the limited number of participants. Find out everything you wanted to know about the North West gem that is Silverdale, exploring whilst you do.

Lancaster & the Chocolate Factory

Spring means only one thing to a lot of people: Easter, and subsequently, chocolate. Over in the city of Lancaster, just a 25-minute drive from Silverdale, you can see Lancaster transformed into a true Charlie and the Chocolate Factory themed wonderland. On the 12th April, from 11:00am to 4:00pm, Lancaster city centre will be alive with the magic of chocolate, including the likes of: roaming characters, chocolate stalls, chocolate making workshops, chocolate and Easter crafts, Wonka trail, fairground rides, face painting and much more. For those who love chocolate, this event is one not to be missed.

Arnside Spring Show

If you love the blooming flowers of spring, you may have flower shows high on your list of priorities for the next few months. Well, you should head over to the Methodist Hall in Arnside on the 30th March from 2:00pm for the Arnside Horticultural Society’s Spring Show. This collection of local community talent will involve a wide range of activities that you can get involved with.

Discover Heron Corn Mill at Night

Delve into the past and discover the medieval origins of Heron Corn Mill with the resident peasant miller. On the 16th May from 7:00pm to 8:00pm, you can visit the mill after hours to discover how it would have operated in days gone by and learn about the ghostly inhabitants that go bump in the night. The evening is free for children and includes soup and freshly baked bread.

Easter at Williamson Park

This Easter, ramp up the fun with a wide range of events taking place at the beautiful Williamson Park in Lancaster. From the 5###sup/sup###, all the way through to the 23rd April, you can take the kids for an Easter egg hunt in the park. The giftshop will be giving out a free worksheet and you can hunt around the park and tick off the eggs as you go.

From 9th April to the 16th April there will be Easter Cracking Crafts Sessions; children can make their own bunny masks, headbands and handprint chicks, available with paid admission to the zoo. There is also a Birdy Breakfast taking place from the 11th April at 10:00am to 11:00am and 2:00pm to 3:00pm, where you can make your own bird feeder out of peanut butter and seed to hang in your garden to attract feathered friends.

Finally, you and your children can delve deep into British pond life by taking a closer look at the kinds of critters living in these habitats, this Fantastic Freshwater Beasts event takes place on the 18th April 10:00am to 11:00am and 2:00pm to 3:00pm and is available with paid admission to the zoo.
